My name is Mike Teator, and I am a resident of Westchester County, NY for the past 25 years. I have taught art to both children and adults for over 20 years and have painted over 30. I am a substitute schoolteacher on call in the towns of Eastchester, Tuckahoe and Bronxville and also actively associated as a lunchtime enrichment/ after school club’s instructor with 11 area schools. During summers, I also teach at various local camps. My club’s classes are in cartooning, drawing, watercolor and stop motion computer animation. I am a BOCES certified instructor of children and recently received a Certificate of Merit from the New York State Legislature, presented by Senator George Latimer. The certificate was awarded to me in recognition of my contribution in teaching children art for many years in Westchester County. I appreciated it and was honored to receive the acknowledgement. Soon after, I had the opportunity to appear twice on NBC’s Today Show!
In 1987, I had the pleasure of being invited to be one of Bob Ross’ first Nationally Certified Instructors. Bob Ross instructed for many years, painting for PBS viewers through his show, “The Joy of Painting ” series. Although he passed on in 1995, Bob’s legacy is still spread across the globe by over a 1500 teachers. The show is now seen in 10 countries as of 2023!
